Let’s Talk (Some More) About the Black Bird

The Place

Kayo Books at 907 Post Street, San Francisco, literally steps away from Sam Spade’s and Dashiell Hammett’s apartment!

The Time

Thursday, February 26th at 6:30 pm.

The Topic

The “Dingus” of course–with special attention paid to the newly released Poltroon Press edition of The Maltese Falcon. Book sales and signing to follow.

The Players

  • Robert Mailer Anderson, novelist, screenwriter, playwright, Grammy-nominated producer and activist–and steward of the Hammett/Spade apartment.
  • Randal S Brandt, curator of the California Detective Fiction Collection at U.C. Berkeley’s Bancroft Library and author of the introduction for this edition.
  • Mark Coggins, detective novelist, illustrator and author of the coda for the new edition.

Getting There

If you are coming from the Left Coast Crime conference at the Hyatt Regency, it’s about a 1.5 mile walk through streets that were well-trodden by Sam Spade. Go south down Market (away from the Ferry Building) until you get to the three way intersection with Post and Montgomery. Head down Post until you get to 907. Alternatively, catch (or share) a cab or an Uber at the hotel for short ride to the venue. The cross street is Hyde.

Afterwards

Why not head over to nearby John’s Grill and have the same dinner of “chops, baked potato, and sliced tomatoes” that Sam Spade did.
